What is it?

MacEwan University and the Department of Music, in collaboration with TD Bank Group, is hosting a two-week all-inclusive professional artist development program August 5th through August 17th, 2025. The TD Music Artist in Residence at MacEwan University program is open to emerging and up-and-coming songwriters, producers, beat-makers, and band leaders who are residents of Alberta and are 18+.

Who is it for?

This program is designed for emerging music artists who face financial barriers or other significant challenges in accessing post-secondary education and professional development opportunities. Guided by the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA), we will focus outreach efforts on underserved communities to ensure that artists who have historically faced barriers to formal training have access to this opportunity.

Supporting the Next Generation of Artists

Many emerging music artists from underserved communities face financial barriers, limited access to resources, and gaps in academic preparation that can make post-secondary music education difficult to pursue. While universities offer valuable training, not all artists have the opportunity to access formal education. This program helps bridge that gap by providing critical industry knowledge, mentorship, and hands-on experience to support their career development.

How This Program Provides Support

The TD Music Artist in Residence at MacEwan University program provides emerging artists from underserved communities with the resources, mentorship, and professional development needed to advance their careers. Many of these artists have already begun developing their craft independently but face financial and educational barriers that limit their growth. This program bridges that gap by offering hands-on training, industry connections, and support.
